Speech Therapist

Job Summary

We are searching for a flexible, resourceful Speech Therapist to join our team. They will perform patient assessments, develop treatment plans, liaise with families and other healthcare professionals. The candidate should be able to work with patients from different backgrounds and be willing to make house calls. To be a successful Speech Therapist, you should be passionate about social and biological science, language, and human anatomy and should be caring, adaptable, and able to use available resources to find solutions. Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults
  • Provide aural rehabilitation for individuals who are deaf or are hard of hearing
  • Provide augmentative and alternative communication systems for induvial with severe expressive, language/comprehension disorders (Autism Spectrum Disorder or Progressive Neurological Disorders)
  • Provide training and education to the family/caregivers and other professionals on speech disorders and available therapies
  • Train and supervise support personnel
  • Provide counseling and consultative services
  • Answering, diagnosing, screening, and preventing language, speech, and swallowing disorders
  • Communicating with patients and liaising with their family members, physicians, and teachers to design effective treatment plans
  • Using tried and tested therapies in combination with new innovative techniques to provide the best care
  • Keeping up to date with advancements in the field by attending conferences conducting research and expanding professional and academic networks
  • Evaluating patient progress and implementing changes to therapy as needed

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Therapy or Speech-Language Pathology
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Registered with the Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SOC)
  • Relevant license and certification
  • Experience with certain disorders and age groups may be required
  • Sound understanding of speech-related disorders and treatments
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving skills
